You don’t have to fly overseas to taste authentic Mexican food. A traditional Mexican dish can be prepared right at home. And this is a taco – a sandwich, which instead of the usual bread for us — tortillas.

The very word “taco” in the etymological dictionary is defined as “tortilla filled with spicy meat.” Most often it is filled with minced meat. However, it is such a popular snack that nowadays you can find an incredible amount of recipes, from vegan to baked tacos. Today we are sharing with you a taco recipe that every Ukrainian can cook at home.

 

You will need:

  •  700 g pork
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cumin
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon garlic powder
  • a pinch of ground black pepper
  • a pinch of dried oregano
  • 100 ml tomato sauce
  • 50 ml of water
  • 12 sheets of taco tortilla
  • 2 pcs avocado
  • 0.5 kg of tomatoes
  • 0.5 kg red pepper
  • 1 lime

Also, if you wish, you can add to the tacos: cheese, lettuce, beans, corn.

How to cook meat?

Please note! For tacos, the pork blade or the jawline “Spicy” is the most suitable.

  1. Cut the meat into even small cubes and fry over medium heat (recommended in olive oil). Add chili powder, cumin, salt, oregano, garlic powder, and pepper to it. Mix the cubes well so that everyone can absorb the flavor of the spice. Cook until the meat is tender, about 10-15 minutes.
  2. As soon as you notice that the meat is cooked, reduce the heat and gradually add the tomato sauce and water (you can first combine them in a glass to create a homogeneous mass). Stir and cook for another 10 minutes, until the water begins to evaporate. You will notice how the sauce thickens slightly. The meat is ready, now the filling.

 

How to make avocado sauce?

90% of the success of this snack comes from the quality of the avocado itself. Therefore, choose ripe, soft ones.

  1. Place the peeled avocados in a bowl or mortar and grind until smooth.
  2. Add a tablespoon of lime juice, salt, pepper, and mix well. The sauce is ready. Let’s fill our tacos.

 

How to cook this?

  1. Place the tortillas in a skillet and heat them a little. They should be lukewarm, but not dry. Better to heat them in a skillet without oil or oil.
  2. Place the leaves on plates and layout the filling. Put a spoonful of avocado first. On the pillow with the sauce, add the meat in cubes, and then the diced vegetables — tomatoes, peppers, onions.
  3. You can drizzle with lime juice on top and voila — the tacos are ready.

Helpful hints. To fully experience the taste of Mexican flavor in food, try adding cilantro to tacos, it will add freshness and an interesting aroma to the dish.
